Trillium Cup – Men’s Team Match Play Championship - October 2 & 3

Trillium Cup – Men’s Team Match Play Championship

The first annual Trillium Cup will be played over two days on Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3, 2010. The friendly competition is designed to bring together the best golfers at Trillium Wood Golf Club to play as a team in a “Ryder Cup” match play format.

Who can play?

Any male member of Trillium Wood Golf Club can play. There will be two teams with each team having 16 golfers.

The teams will be comprised of:

10 - “Open” golfers – any male golfer under the age of 55 years old (Blue Tees)

5 – “Senior” golfers – any male 55 years or older (White Tees)

1 – “Super Seniors” golfers – any male golfer +70 years (White or Red Tees, tbd)

(Ages are based on your age as of October 1, 2010)

When is the competition?

The competition will be run on the following dates:

            Match 1               Saturday, October, 2, 2010 – Tee Time 8:00am

            Match 2               Saturday, October, 2, 2010 – Tee Time 2:00am

            Match 3               Sunday, October 3, 2010 – Tee Time 11:00am

What is the Format?

The format for the event is modeled around the “Ryder Cup”. It is a Match Play event played over three rounds. The matches consist of eight foursome matches, eight four ball matches and 16 singles matches. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with ½ a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes. Each day the Team Captains will choose their match-ups.

Day 1            Foursomes: This match is a competition between two teams of two golfers. The golfers on the same team take alternate shots throughout the match, with the same ball. The players alternate tee shots regardless of who shot last on the previous hole. Each hole is won by the team that completes the hole in the fewest shots.

Day 2            Four ball: This match is also a competition between two teams of two golfers, but all four golfers play their own ball throughout the round rather than alternating shots, and each hole is won by the team whose individual golfer has the lowest score.

Day 3            Singles: This match is a standard match play competition between two golfers. The winning team is determined by cumulative total points from the three days of matches.

How do I Qualify?

Any member of Trillium Wood Golf Club can qualify. We will run four qualifying events throughout the year and will also use the Club Championship as the final qualifier. Each person will submit their gross scores and the best three gross scores of those submitted will be used to determine your total score. After the Club Championship those who have qualified will be selected onto one of the two teams.

What are the Costs and is there a Prize for the Winners?

This is a fun competition and is design to try and appeal to a large segment of our diverse membership group.

The costs are as follows:

Qualifying:
If you want to try and qualify for the event you register at the golf shop. You must register prior to playing any rounds that you wish to use toward your total score. Cost is $10.00.

Make the Team:
If you have qualified for the team there is an additional fee of $15.00. This fee will go toward offsetting some of the costs of uniforms etc. We will be providing a uniform for each member of the team. We will also provide the opportunity for people to purchase other items (such as hats, towels etc.) for an additional fee.

Winners: After the Day 3 - Final Round we will have a banquet in the clubhouse. The Winning Team will have their cost of the banquet covered by the Losing Team. We want this to be a special meal so we expect a cost of about $30 per person for the event. Therefore a fee of $60 will be charged to each player prior to the event. The Winning Team members will have their $60 refunded. The Losing Team will not receive their $60 refund as they are paying for their dinner as well as the dinner of one member of the winning team.

MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN
